Refractive laser surgery has proved itself in everyday life as a reliable ophthalmic treatment for deficiencies of vision. Treatment of myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism by Lasik has been recognized not only by the German operative society of ophthalmologists, but also the U.S. Department of Health.

For many years we have been correcting defective vision with the aid of the Excimer Laser. During this time we have operated on thousands of patients. On our website are different methods of refractive surgery and we use IntraLasik in more than 99% of these surgeries.

In order to achieve optimal correction of the cornea, a refined use of modern technology should be administered. The excimer laser is a very accurate device that is able to engrave something even on a human hair. The laser polishes the surface of the cornea by using ultraviolet rays. In the center of the cornea a 0.5 mm thick layer is gradually removed approximately 0.1 mm with the center and more is removed along the edge. As a result, the refraction of the light on the cornea is changed.

Range of application of a Femtosecond laser:
•	In Lasik eye correction surgery, for patients with inadequate thickness of the cornea, a high degree of nearsightedness or farsightedness.
•	Patients with diseases such as corneal clouding, or bulge.
•	Safe and gentle performance while cutting the cornea.

What are the advantages of IntraLasik method compared with the classical method of Lasik?
One great advantage of IntraLasik is the reduced probability of complications that can be caused by the corneal incision during the classic method. Sections of the cornea, which were made with the help of microkeratome, are thinner in the center. In rare cases, the center of the slice is so thin that follow laser processing becomes possible only after some time. When using Femtosecond laser, on the contrary, the slice is done parallel to the surface of the cornea, which means that the cut in the center is exactly the same thickness as on the periphery. For this reason, complications associated with the operation are less likely to arise.

The high accuracy of the slice thickness of the cornea
A slice of the cornea (flap) that is made by a Femtosecond laser is much more accurate and safe in comparison to one made with a mechanical microkeratome. Earlier, the deviation from the standard ranged from 20 to 40 micrometers, and they are now less than 10 micrometers. Although the likelihood of complications after classic microkeratome surgery was very low (1:1000), it is even lower now with IntraLasik. This means that IntraLasik eye laser operation has been providing the patients more security.

The high degree of myopia & thin corneas
Patients who had been denied the laser eye operation for medical reasons (such as high myopia or thin corneas) can now be helped with the Femtosecond laser. The surgical intervention effect on the corneal tissue is less intrusive, making it possible to perform Lasik operations even with a high degree of myopia.

If you have difficulty reading or cannot drive a car because you no longer see well, don’t worry! You aren’t becoming blind – you’re most likely experiencing age-related vision loss.

Here are the most common effects that age has on vision:

Small print becomes blurry
As the aging lens becomes less flexible, it becomes more difficult to change focus from far objects to near objects. This complicates the focus on close objects.

Warning signs:

The sharp decline that is associated with such disorders is macular degeneration, in which central vision is suffering. You may also experience vitreous hemorrhaging, which occurs due to an aneurysm, and is often related to diabetes and retinal detachment.

Dryness in the eyes
When you’re young, your tears contain the necessary components to completely cover and moisturize the eye. When you get older, your tears may lose the ability to moisturize your eyes. In tears, there is a layer of protein, a layer of fat and an aqueous layer. If one of these layers is faulty, then there is dryness of the eye.
At the same time that you experience dryness or irritation, there may be increased watering to compensate for the imbalance. Medications for high blood pressure, antihistamines, diuretics, or hormone replacement therapy can help dry eyes.

Post-menopausal women often develop dysfunction of the meibomian gland. This gland is located in the century, and it creates a layer of fat tears.

Cause is lagophthalmos, which occurs when the patient is is not blinking enough.
Warning signs:

Sudden dryness of the eyes may be a sign of damaged lacrimal gland or tear duct blockage, which is caused by an infection, or a tumor or a scar from being hit in the eye. In these cases, you may need to massage the area to open the duct, and in extreme cases you may require surgery.
Difficulty with night vision

Nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism, where there is irregular curvature of the cornea, may be the main reasons why you see glares and halos at night, especially around headlights and traffic lights.
Warning signs:

In some forms of cataracts may be a reason for loss of night vision and nighttime glare. It is more common among those suffering from diabetes and people who use steroids and have experienced the trauma of the eye. You should contact your doctor to determine the cause.

Flying points in the eye

Flying points in the eye are small thread or specks that float in your field of vision. This is nothing more than jut shadows cast by fibers and particles of protein in the gelatinous substance in your eye. With aging, the gelatinous substance liquefies and separates from the retina.
Warning signs:

Lots of new front sights can talk about the break or retinal detachment, which can lead to blindness if not correct it promptly. (this sentence is a little confusing. What are ‘front sights’? usually things don’t “talk”, they “indicate”. So these may indicate retinal detachment) You may need surgery to repair the damage.
If you notice at any warning signs, you should contact Boothe Eye Care & Laser Center to schedule an appointment at (214) 328 – 0444.

What happens before, during and after Lasik surgery?
What really to expect before, during and after laser vision correction depends on the doctor and the patient. This article presents a compilation of information from Dr. William Boothe, but this is not a substitute for a dialogue between you and your doctor. You can carefully examine this information and discuss your expectations with Dr. William Boothe.

Prior to surgery
If you decide to have Lasik surgery, Dr. Boothe will hold a provisional or basic evaluation of whether or not you are suitable you are for the operation. This includes discussion of your general health, any eye diseases you may have, and the current condition of your vision.

If you wear contact lenses, it is advisable to stop using them before the initial examination and to use eyeglasses instead. Contact lenses change the shape of the cornea and this change is significant for several weeks after you stop using them. How far in advance you should remove contact lenses depends on the type of contact lenses that you wear. If you don’t do this, the cornea may not be able to restore its normal shape before surgery, which can lead to negative consequences. These consequences include inaccurate measurements and poor planning of the operation. The result after surgery may not be optimal and sometimes can be worse.

The day before surgery you should stop using:
- Creams and lotions
- Cosmetics

During the surgery
A nurse will administer numbing eye drops and clean the area around your eyes. Then a special instrument called a blepharostat will keep your eyelids open. The ring will be attached to the eye, and will create a lot of pressure to provide suction to the cornea. When this ring-sucker is installed, your vision may change slightly. You will feel pressure and experience some discomfort during this part of the procedure. After the installment of the ring-sucker a microkeratome will be used. With the help of this blade, Dr. Boothe will make an incision on the cornea of your eye creating a corneal flap. When your eyes are in the right position, Dr. Boothe will use a laser beam to correct your vision. At this time of the operation, you should expect new sounds and scents. The laser pulse is accompanied by a click. As the laser removes corneal tissue, some patients notice the odor, which resembles the smell of burnt hair. The computer controls the laser power of influence on the eye. Before starting the operation, Dr. Boothe programs the computer so that there is a certain amount of evaporation of tissues, in accordance with the results of measurements performed during your initial assessment of your eyes. Once the laser energy vaporizes the necessary amount of the corneal tissue the flap will be returned to place.
After surgery

You should see a doctor within the first 24 hours after surgery and then at regular intervals, at least within the first three months. On the first visit after surgery Dr. Boothe will check your vision with an eye examination. Dr. Boothe can give you one or more types of eye drops that you can take home to prevent infection and (or) inflammation. You may also be advised to use artificial tears. Do not resume wearings contact lenses in the operated eyes.

Having good vision is one of the most essential parts of our lives. If you’re already thinking about how to maintain your vision, you need to think about a balanced diet for your eyes and products are useful for improving vision.

Good nutrition for the eyes should include foods that contain vitamins A, C, E, and minerals such as copper and zinc. These are necessary for good vision.
Having made your own diet of mineral products to improve and restore vision, rich in vitamins and microelements necessary for normal functioning of the eyes; you will feel a noticeable effect over time.Dr.

Good nutrition for vision restoration

What products are useful for improving vision or eye recovery?
First of all, for vision improvement you need antioxidants, including beta-carotene, luteinand zeaxanthin. Antioxidants provide protection from the sun. Dark, green leafy vegetables, egg yolks, yellow peppers, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and carrots all contain antioxidants.

Recent studies show that eating yellow and green vegetables may help prevent age-related changes in vision, and blurred vision after a long day of work at the computer.
Foods rich in sulfur, lecithin, and cysteine can protect your eyes from cataracts. Garlic, onions, shallots, and capers contain a lot of these elements.
Blueberries and grapes are rich in anthocyanin content, which has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Eating these products helps to significantly improve vision.
In order to improve and restore the vision youalso need fatty acids. Products that containfatty acids necessary for the improvement vision are fish such as salmon, sardines, mackerel, and cod. Fatty acids provide structural support to cell membranes, which is important for eye health.

To prevent dehydration and dryness of the eyes you should regularly drink clean filtered water throughout the day. It is recommended to drink eight glasses of clean water or 2 liters of water every day.
Make healthy food for your eyes; activate consume useful diet products for improving vision!

Do the exercise for the eyes
You need to perform daily exercises for your eyes in order to restore and improve vision. Special exercises for eyes can help to improve vision, due to the fact that they train the eye muscles and improve blood circulation. Exercises can be done at any time in the morning, afternoon or at bedtime.Wash your hands before exercise and relax. Dr. William Boothe advises to perform daily eye exercises such as:
Exercises to improve vision and eye health
1.	Warm up your eyes: Rub your hands to warm them and then cover the eyes with your hands for five seconds. Repeat three times.
2.	Rotate your eyes: Lower your eyes, then slowly rotate them 20 times clock wise and then 10 times counterclockwise.
3.	Exercise on the focusing of the eyes. Keep a pen (or you can just use your finger) at arm’s length; focus on it, and slowly approach the pen to a distance of about 15 cm from the nose. Then slowly move your pen back, not taking eyes off the tip of the pen. Repeat exercise 10 times.
4.	Give your eyes a rest. Put your head back, close your eyes and relax, let your eyes rest for three minutes.

If you wish to learn how you can improve your eye sight with surgery, please consult with our Lasik surgeon at Boothe Eye care.

Age-related vision changes
The human body undergoes various changes with age. These changes also relate to your eyes, especially after 60 years. Some changes in your vision are not necessarily eye diseases. They can represent a natural process of aging, such as presbyopia. The development of cataracts can be considered as an age-related disease- its prevalence among people in this age group is extremely high. Fortunately surgical removal of cataracts can easily fix the problem.

Unfortunately, over the years, many of us face more serious age-related eye diseases that may have a negative impact on vision and quality of life. There are diseases such as glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and diabetic retinopathy.

When do these changes occur?
Presbyopia – When you are close to age 40, you will find that you may experience difficulties in reading and working at a short distance because of the development of presbyopia. This condition is associated with the seal of your natural lens inside the eye.

For a while, you will be able to compensate for the inability to focus by adjusting the proximity of whatever you are looking at. Presbyopia is a progressing condition that will become more pronounced as you age. After a while, you will probably need reading glasses, progressive glasses, or multifocal lenses, and you may need to change them regularly. You may undergo laser eye operations to correct presbyopia. For example, mono vision Lasik surgery and laser thermal keratoplasty both can help with this issue.

Cataracts – Cataracts are now so common among eye diseases that they can be viewed as a natural process of aging.

Modern cataract surgery is one of the most high-tech areas in medicine. It is so safe and effective and patients often restore their vision. Because timely surgical treatment of cataracts guarantees minimal risk of complications after laser eye surgery, you should consult your eye doctor at the first signs of cataracts. Your doctor may suggest artificial lenses (IOL – Intraocular lenses) that can help you get the best quality of vision at different distances.

Age-related macular degeneration – AMD is the leading cause of irreversible decline of vision in the aging population. The population of developed countries is aging rapidly and the proportion of patients with AMD has been steadily increasing. This is significantly degrading the quality of life.

Glaucoma – In contrast, this disease starts at a younger age. Regular eye examinations for glaucoma is recommended to be performed starting from age 40. Every 10 years after, the risk of glaucoma increases dramatically.

Diabetic retinopathy – The incidence of diabetes in developed countries is reaching catastrophic levels. One of the first organs that is affected by diabetic changes is the retina. Regular examinations by an ophthalmologist can detect the earliest changes of the retina and the suspect occurrence of diabetes in a patient. Diabetic retinopathy causes a persistent decrease in visual function.
If you notice any changes in your vision, do not hesitate to consult Dr. Boothe. Contact the Boothe Eye Care Center, and Dr. William Boothe can help you choose the correct treatment for your situation.

Bad habits like smoking and excessive alcohol consumption have a negative effect on the cardiovascular and nervous systems. As a result, you may suffer from headaches, breathing difficulties and your vision might deteriorate. You can rectify the situation by changing manners, and inclinations, which are only a bit helpful. Physicians share advice to cultivate in yourself new visual habits that will help your eyes and you will see well. Dr. William Boothe discusses what habits are needed to improve vision at Boothe Eye Care

Top Two Habits that are necessary to improve vision

We can all agree that we use our eyes of almost all the time, except when sleeping. The introduction of certain visual habits will help you relieve stress from your visual system. It does not take much time. You just need to learn how to use the eyes and mind.

Some of the visual habits will help your eyes work properly, thus preventing the accumulation of eyestrain.Others will make you alert and focused and will help you better understand what you see and feel. Make these habits part of your regular day and it will bring you immediate benefits.

Regularly blink.

When you blink the eye’s surface is cleaned and moisturized. If you are relaxed, you blink10-12 times per minute, or once every five seconds. But people with low vision, subconsciously tend to keep their eyes wide open that causes stress and fatigue in their eyes. Do not forget to blink every three to five seconds.

Of course, you will not walk for days with a stopwatch in hand to make sure you do this. Just be conscious of how much more effort you put into blinking regularly, and take note of how much better your eyes feel. Our eyelid is the only part of the body, which is regulated by only one muscle. By properly relaxing this muscle, you can achieve relaxation throughout the body.
An fluttering blink is an exercise that you can do at any time of day. For example, if you notice in yourself, that you are peering into something, or when the eyes are strained and tired. This exercise is fairly easy – you just blink 10-20 times.

Do not strain and do not force your eyes closed. On the contrary – relax your facial muscles during blinking. Then, for a while close your eyes and relax. Repeat these two or three times. Fluttering blinkswill help you keep your eyes moist and relaxed.

Use peripheral vision

When you focus on an object, your eyes just get information from the peripheral consciousness – from the side, front and rear with respect to where you look.Relaxed and balanced vision allows an organized and coordinated way use the central and peripheral vision.

People with visual impairments are often focusing too much of their eyes on one subject, thereby blocking peripheral vision. This is an artificially created scope that may cause mental fatigue and stress.
You should always try to notice everything that comes into your field of view – a table on a book that you read is laying, the space between you and optometric table or, for example, the space that surrounds you when you are driving.

Laser vision correction is a technique that appeared more than 2 decades ago. Its main use is to help us walk away from the necessity of wearing glasses or contact lenses. So, if you have experience of being “four-eyeed”, then this technology will make what you have been dreaming for many years come true. You must be familiar with the problems you encounter in everyday life when wearing glasses and about the undesirable consequences of wearing contact lenses. Therefore leave these clearly outdated means of vision correction and turn to the high-tech methods to improve vision, laser vision correction.

It seems surprising that a procedure that lasts less than 30 seconds per eye can solve the problem that has been plaguing your life for many years. Of course there are “well-wishers” to discourage you from this decisive step. There is some risk involved, as with any surgical procedure. But you can be sure that whatever happens, no matter how bad your vision is, after surgery you will see much better than before. During the correction of vision there has been no known case of total loss of sight in the world.
Intralasik is the best vision correction technology

IntraLasik is a term for excimer laser vision correction technology using a Femtosecond laser to create the corneal flap. It got its name from the word IntraLase – a brand of the first production of a Femtosecond laser company AMO (USA). Otherwise, it is also called All-laser Lasik.

The principal difference IntraLasik from other methods of laser vision correction is to use a laser rather than a mechanical microkeratome to create the corneal flap. At the same time IntraLasik can be combined with any excimer laser technology designed for LASIK, including the standard ablation, ablation based on the WaveFront and aspheric ablation.
Studies have shown the advantages of using a Femtosecond laser. According to Dr. William Boothe, IntraLasik provides more accurate thickness, shape and contour of the flap throughout the slice. The program allows you to create a flap of any size and position of the leg of corneal flap in any meridian. The surface of stromal bed is also smoother.
However, the main practical advantage of IntraLasik is the possibility of forming a thinner corneal flap in comparison with a mechanical microkeratome, which is very important for carrying out excimer laser vision correction for patients with high myopia and thin corneas.

What do I need to know taking care of my eye?
Sight is a wonderful gift. Experts estimate 70-95% of the information a person receives is through the ability to see. At the same time the eye is the most poorly protected organ.
The retina has the “jelly-like” thickness of 0.3-0.5 mm and freely adheres to the outer structures of the eye. Relatively weak mechanical stress can lead to injury of the eye (retinal detachment).
Many people suffer from various eye diseases, and we can say that most of them could have prevented it. The most important thing is correct and careful care, otherwise you risk not being able to see a bouquet of flowers or an engagement ring.
Not all ophthalmic diseases can be prevented, but you can take steps to reduce the risk of vision loss and improve eye health. Ophthalmologists such as Dr. William Boothe of Boothe Eye Care strongly recommend using the following tips to protect your eyes.

1.	Sunglasses
This is not just a stylish accessory – it is also eye protection!. Good sunglasses block 100% of direct UV rays from entering the envelope of the eye. These rays can damage the retina, which contributes to the development of cataracts. Sunglasses also protect the delicate skin of eyelids, and reduce the risk of early wrinkling and skin cancer.
2.	Do not smoke
Smoking is directly linked to many negative health effects, including age-related macular degeneration. Studies have shown that smokers are more likely to develop AMD than non-smokers. Smokers are also subject to an increased risk of developing cataracts.
3.	Monitoring the health of the eye after age 40.
This procedure is optional after 40 years. Many people in this age can have serious eye problems. Dr. William Boothe will make a program of care and treatment for you based on the results of running tests and studies on your eyes. If your relatives eye diseases, problems with high blood pressure, and diabetes, notify your doctor.
4.	Eat right.
Deficiency of vitamins and minerals can damage your retina. The belief of many that carrots have a positive effect on vision is only partially true. A variety of vegetables, especially leafy greens, should become a mandatory part of your menu.
5.	Know your family history.
Knowing that someone in your family suffers or suffered from diseases of the eye can help you prevent the development of eye disease in itself. Discuss this with Dr. Boothe at your consultation.
6.	Use special glasses to work with your computer.
Their operating principle is to filter harmful radiation to the eyes from the monitor. Your eyes are relaxing while you work with a computer (deep muscle relaxation). Because of this, your eyes do not strain and will not be so tired. By evening, you feel that there is no headache or pain in the eyes and no redness. Blood vessels, which are always red and sore, calm down and the eyes will be normal.

HOW TO KEEP GOOD VISION AS YOU AGE
The ability to see the world around us is one of the most valuable gifts of nature to mankind. However, due to bad habits, lack of vitamins, and the negative impact of the environment, a young person will discover visual impairments every second. In order to avoid huge glasses when you’re 30and to avoid the loss of pleasure of seeing the world at 50, it is best to take care of your own health in advance.
Correct and valid nutrition plays a huge role in the fight for sight. You need to eat fruit and vegetables, which contain the necessary amount of lutein, everyday. This includes carrots, persimmons, beans, peas, tangerines, and anything that is reddish-orange in color. Blueberries can be especially useful in fresh or candied form. In the winter, when they are out of season, a jar of jam will be enjoyable.
The lack of vitamins in the body can affect not only vision, but also can cause other negative consequences such as lower the ability to withstand even the common cold. Unfortunately, no matter how many fruits and vegetables people eat, the nutrients enter the body very slowly and are absorbed in small amounts. Therefore, additional stimulation of the body will not hurt anyone. It is possible, for example, to diversify your diet, using dietary supplements or vitamins. A particularly acute need for such assistance arises in early spring, when all diseases are aggravated. But be careful. To choose the right supplements or vitamins for the eyes is necessary to consult with a specialist. So you can visit Boothe Eyecare & Laser Center, where our consultants will be happy to assist you.

In addition to nutrition, you must also regularly rest your eyes especially during work. The weekend is better when you spend time outside relaxing, and not in front of the TV or computer. On a sunny day, you should use high quality sunglasses and guard your eyes from dust or small particles. While selecting sunglasses, pay attention to the color of the lens. Do not choose a colored glass, as this may negatively affect your health. Red, pink, and yellow lenses have a negative effect on the nerve receptors, causing fatigue. At work, you should perform from time to time a special exercise to recharge. Concentrate your view on a distant object for twenty-seconds, and then focus your view on near object. Doing these steps ten times will give your eyes a rest.

If you start from an early age to care for your eyes, have regular visits to an ophthalmologist and eat right, you can avoid deteriorating vision when you get old. And later on, when you want to read an interesting book or article, you won’t have to ask your grandchildren to find your glasses!

Having healthy eyes is important
Vision is one of the most important human senses. 80% of the information about the world we find it is through our eyes. Good vision is a prerequisite for a healthy and happy life.

How do you maintain eye health?
Fast, easy, and necessary
The earliest step to take is a regular eye examination by an ophthalmologist. This is painless and requires the least amount of time. Dr. Boothe will quickly examine your vision and determine any problems or irregularities you may have. He will also offer suggestions and recommendations on how to treat them. Dr. William Boothe will determine not only the quality of your vision, but also assess the overall health of the organism.

Eye examinations should be done annually even if you feel that you have no vision problems. It is important to know that many diseases of the eye in the early stages take place without any symptoms. If you do not have very good eyesight, you should keep in mind that without a properly matched lens, it might deteriorate further. To determine the appropriate method of correction you should consult Dr. Boothe.

The eyes are the mirror of health
Regular eye exams can help detect early signs of diseases or to prevent their development. For example eye diseases such as glaucoma, cataracts, and functional disorders of the eye muscles, result in the appearance of strabismus. Dr. William Boothe will also be able to identify the symptoms of hypertension and diabetes to determine the risk of stroke and to assess the level of cholesterol in the body.

Your eyes can not go to the doctor without you, so take care of them yourself and make an appointment at Boothe Eye Care & Laser Center today!

Vision checking it is so easy
In today’s rapidly changing world is especially important to spend time caring for the health of the eye. Make it’s not hard: just go to Boothe Eye Care Center. Experienced specialists in a few minutes check your eyesight and give necessary recommendations.

What is vision checking?

An eye exam begins with a conversation with Dr. Boothe. He will ask you to tell him about your vision, ask questions, and then carry out a survey of your eyes with a special electronic device, which accurately determines whether you have a change of refraction and whether or not you need a correction.

Then Dr. Boothe will check the sharpness of your vision: to do this he will show you letters or special characters on the plates or using a projector.

Why do you need a check up?
First of all a check up is needed to determine whether or not you need vision correction, as well as to identify potential eye diseases. If your visual acuity is below 1.0 (the lower limit of normal), Dr. Boothe will recommend the method you need for vision correction – one that is right for you.

If you already wear glasses or contact lenses, do not forget to take them with you during your visit to Boothe Eye Care Center.
