Intralase Keratoplasty Technology at Boothe Eye Care

Filed under: Boothe Eye Care — Tags: , , — Doctor Boothe Eye @ 6:36 pm

Intralase Keratoplasty is an innovative technique used in corneal transplantation. Intralase keratoplasty provides excellent results as it is the combination of corneal transplantation and refractive surgery. The laser techniques in this procedure reduce the imperfections that are caused in corneal transplantation surgery that was done manually. It is a bladeless surgery performed using infrared laser and is very quick and efficient. This technique enables a faster recovery after completing the surgery. In IntraLase Keratoplasty, IntraLase Femtosecond Laser is used to make corneal incisions. This laser produces around 60,000 pulses every second when creating the beam of energy. The energy released by the laser is capable of creating corneal incisions with greater accuracy.

The graft created by the help of the IntraLase laser will be more stable with fewer sutures that can result in faster recovery and better vision. Dr. Boothe of Boothe Eye Care will program the laser in such a way to produce precise and safer incisions on the cornea as well as on the corneal tissue that has to be transplanted. The laser will produce two identical pieces so that the donor cornea can fit properly on the recipient’s eye. Because of the preciseness in fitting, chances of getting astigmatism are reduced.

IntraLase Keratoplasty is suitable for making complex incisions that are impossible with traditional LASIK surgery. The corneal incisions made out of the laser have an interlocking design so that the corneal graft created will be more stable. The sutures of IntraLase Keratoplasty can be taken out much earlier than that of the traditional LASIK surgical procedure. The complication caused due to graft displacement is minimal in the case of IntraLase Keratoplasty when compared to the traditional surgical procedure.

The corneal incisions made with the help of trephines (in traditional LASIK) will not have perfect interlocking as that of the corneal incisions made using laser. The corneal incision created with laser will interlock with each other perfectly and effectively to produce better results. The success of IntraLase Keratoplasty is 85% and the results of the surgery depend on several factors. If you are suffering from retinal problems or glaucoma, then the outcome of your surgery may not be precise. There is also a possibility of graft rejection by the eyes. In the majority of the cases, the patient will obtain improved vision gradually and the recovery time also varies from one patient to patient.

The patient may have to use contact lenses or eye glasses even after corneal transplantation. If you are not satisfied with you vision improvement, you can go for laser enhancement surgery to get better vision. IntraLase Keratoplasty takes around one hour to complete. The surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure in which local or general anesthesia is used. Dr. Boothe will recommend that you use medicated eye drops prevent rejection of the graft. A complete eye examination is required before undergoing IntraLase Enabled Keratoplasty. If you are interested in learning more about Intralase Keratoplasty, please visit Boothe Eye Care.

Bladeless LASIK At Boothe Eye Care

Filed under: Boothe Eye Care — Tags: , , — Doctor Boothe Eye @ 5:39 pm

Bladeless LASIK works similarly to traditional LASIK. The only difference between them is that traditional LASIK uses the microkeratome for cutting the corneal flap, and bladeless LASIK uses laser energy. During a bladeless LASIK procedure, Dr. Boothe uses a laser to create the corneal flap and to reshape the cornea. Bladeless LASIK allows the surgeon to customize the flap creation for each person. Flap creation using laser technology greatly reduces the risks and complications associated with LASIK.

Bladeless LASIK surgery uses two kinds of lasers – an excimer laser and a femtosecond laser. The femtosecond laser is used to create a corneal flap and the flap is folded back so the refractive error can be corrected. The excimer laser is then used to remove the corneal tissue exposed in order to correct the corneal shape. After correcting the shape of the cornea, the flap is placed back on to the surface and starts healing. Bladeless LASIK is best suited for patients with very thin corneas and also patients who have previously done LASIK surgery. The bladeless LASIK procedure is also known as the IntraLase surgical procedure. In comparison with traditional LASIK, it is safer and quicker. The corneal flap can be created within 30 seconds and in some cases, 10 seconds.

Bladeless LASIK requires less energy usage so the risks of corneal tissue damage or inflammations are low compared to traditional LASIK. The development of dry eye is also uncommon. Several complications such as decentered flaps, micro perforations, buttonholes and irregular flaps can be eliminated by the use of bladeless LASIK.

If you would like to undergo bladeless LASIK, you have to be at least 18 years or older without any health problems. You cannot use eyeglasses or contact lenses for at least one week prior to the bladeless LASIK procedure. After completing the surgery, you should not swim or rub your eyes for several weeks. Side-effects such as dry eyes, halos, and light sensitivity will gradually disappear. Dr. Boothe will go through all the precautions that you should take before and after the surgery.

Saved by Lasik at Boothe Laser Center

I want to tell you my vision’s sad story. I had short-sightedness since childhood. Around first grade my eyesight required me to start wearing eyeglasses. Two or three years later my prescription , based on my visits to the ophthalmologist where I read letters from a board, required new pair of eyeglasses which had very thick lenses… I did not like the way I looked nor the nicknames classmates used to call me.

This has all been in the past. I am 24 years old and three month ago I finally decided to do a Lasik procedure at the Boothe Eye Laser Center. So now I have 1.0 vision in both of my eyes. There was absolutely no pain, I was surprised how quickly my laser eye surgery was performed. I began to see well just as I came out of the operation room. After surgery I felt fine, maybe a little tired, and I had a tingling sensation in the eyes. This went away after a day. Now I have perfect vision for far but sometime it is difficult to focus my eyes on near objects. Dr. Boothe explained that it can happen but within 6 months will be naturally corrected.

Doing Lasik was the right decision for me. I feel more independent and safe without glasses and contact lenses. My advice- don’t be afraid to do Lasik and save yourselves the daily hassle of contacts.

Dr. Boothe performed my eyes correction in April 23, 2011

When I was at the Boothe Eyecare’s waiting room that day I had the opportunity to talked to patients who had the treatment before and came for a follow-up and when they told about their diagnoses I was shocked because some patients had severe eye diseases or conditions. They told about their positive results and it assured me that my -5.5 number in both of my eyes can be cured.

By the way, for 5 years prior to the lasik surgery I wore contact lenses. Lately I was troubled by dryness in my eyes. The operation was very quick and I did not have enough time to realize what is happening before it was over. Very quickly afterwards I noticed that I could see much more clearly the things around me when I was still in the recovery room.

I recommend Dr. William Boothe to everyone, he and his team were nice and professional. They gave me a kit of medications to use after surgery, clear instructions and made sure my recovery progresses well every time I came in for a follow up.

How 5 minutes at Boothe Eyecare changed my life

A few years ago I had poor vision and it affected me and my life. I was extremely protective about my eyes and always wore glasses – many times I damaged them or lost them. I felt very limited. For example, my friends freely played football, volleyball or basketball but I always was afraid that the ball will break my glasses. My friends encouraged me to go to an eye surgeon and look for a laser treatment but every time I found an excuse not to go.

During the last three months my eyesight bothered me more than usual so I seriously thought of having a laser treatment but I wanted the best eye surgeon. I turned on the computer and began looking on the internet for ‘the best Lasik eye surgeon in Dallas (I am from Texas). My search stopped when I found the Boothe Laser Center. I was surprised when I read that William Boothe was the most experienced Intralasik surgeon in the USA. I was glad that I really found a good surgeon with terrific skill. The first thing what I did the next morning was calling the Boothe Eye Care & Laser Center and booking a suitable day and time for consultation with Dr. Boothe. Having never been at this center I was a bit tense.

Dr. Boothe made on me a good initial impression. He was respectful and very careful when examining my eyes. I was nervous about the part of the surgery where the laser will touch my eyes. I was afraid that I would not be able to tolerate it. Dr. Boothe reassured me that the laser itself affects each eye for less than one minute and I will only feel a little pressure. Yet my eyes will be numbed by the anesthetic eye drops and my eyes will be ”freezed” so I will not feel any pain. I was very pleased when each member of staff respected my opinions and advised me about the different options which can be used on my eyes. I wanted to avoid some exam procedures but the nurse explained that it was very important before surgery because it showed ”vision picture” of the eyes. I went back with all results to Dr. Boothe. He said that the Lasik procedure to improve vision was the appropriate surgery for me. Before the surgery Dr. Boothe prescribed me with eye drops which he said I must use each day for two weeks.

On the surgery day I was anxious. Before the operation I talked with other patients who underwent treatment at this center and had latest follow-up visit to Dr. Boothe. They talked about their experiences and had similar feelings before surgery. Their surgery results were amazing! They read without glasses and I wanted to experience the same. When the nurse called my name I stood up and courageously came to the desk. I had a very strong desire to improve my vision and my life.

Before surgery the nurse helped me lay comfortably on the operating bed and dripped my eyes. Dr. Boothe said that I should look at the green light and try to think about something nice. Before each step he stopped for a few seconds and explained me what he will be doing next. The nurse flushed the eyes with special solutions and Dr. Boothe said that I could get up and go to rest. I could not believe my ears! Is that all? The Lasik procedure is quick and painless indeed.

After surgery I had a cloudy mist in my eyes and nurses helped me to go to postoperative room. I felt some ”plucking” in the eyes. The nurse explained that if I regularly drip eye drops the feeling will go away. Dr. Boothe looked at whether the flap is replaced properly and allowed me to go home.

The next morning was wonderful. I sat behind the wheel and went to Boothe Laser Center. Dr. Boothe to check my eyes and I had 20/15 vision. Now I am so glad that I had it done!

Dr. Boothe gave me ”new eyes”!

I want to send hugs and kisses to Dr. William Boothe. He is a great surgeon! He was able to treat a condition that other doctors I went to preferred not to help me with.

I came to the Boothe Eye Laser Center with such a poor vision and I already thought that no one would be able to help me. My friend improved her vision at this center and was very pleased with the attention and service of each member of the clinic’s staff. She offered me to only come to have a consultation with another professional surgeon and I listened to her advice, although I had no more hope. I thought that they could help my friend because she didn’t have such a serious problem with her eyesight like mine. In the right eye I had a “bouquet” of eye diseases: -7.5 vision, hole in the retina and astigmatism. In the left eye I had -4 vision & swollen cornea as a result of wearing contact lenses for eight years. Also in the left eye I had growths on the cornea. It was so uncomfortable to have a big difference between eyesight in each of my eyes. My eye muscles were very weak because my vision deteriorated at childhood.

When Dr. Boothe got the result after all of the eye tests he said that I can improve my vision. I must be very patient because it would take a long time since my vision had not been properly treated. His assistant was very detailed when telling me about my treatment, going over it step by step. It made a huge impression on me and I agreed to get treatment under his guidance. Three months ago I had a scleroplasty procedure and one month ago I had an eye correction surgery.

When some people said that miracles do not happen, I can respond that they do occur if you get treated at the Boothe Eye Care & Laser Center. I think that I had many vision problems and to realize that I could get rid of them in a couple of painless procedures is amazing. Due to the attentive and delicate execution of the surgical operations by Dr. Boothe and his well-chosen team, I recommend doing your laser eye surgery at Boothe’s Center, especially for people who have myopia that is more than average and/or a high degree.

Boothe Eyecare & Dr William Boothe

About four month ago I had Lasik Surgery at Boothe Eye Care & Laser Center with Dr. William Boothe, and I’m very satisfied with my vision!

I am journalist. I spend much time each day working on a computer. I wanted to have good vision because it is very important for my health (I started to get headaches from staring at the screen for so many hours M-F) and my career. I looked for the best procedure to improve my vision. I found out that the IntraLASIK procedure is what I need – safe, quick, and accurate.

I went to Dr. William Boothe. I was in Boothe Eyecare a few times before for various eye exams and this time, after I told them I’m interested in IntraLASIK and they made sure I’ll be a good candidate, the nurse made an appointment for my surgery. Before surgery, Dr. Boothe made me feel very relaxed and tried to ease my fears. I was confident that I was in good hands. I stayed at the Center no more an hour. The surgery itself took less than 15 minutes. I did not feel a thing. It was much easier then expected.

On the next day I was able to return to work. Four months later, I am proud to say I have 20/20 vision and had no problems. Big Thank You!

Thanks Dr William Boothe and Boothe Eyecare

Dr. William Boothe, I would like to express my opinion about Boothe Eyecare and about my laser surgery. Before this review I did not express my opinion because I have not had time, but now my friend wants to do the surgery, so I decided to share my experience with her and everyone else.

The surgery was done in 2005. Before doing it, I thought a lot about this surgery, since I was fed up wearing glasses and the lenses were always got lost. I didn’t have much trust with the different centers, because one of my friends did it and after 7-8 months after it his vision began to fall to the point it was as bad as before. Therefore, at first I was searching online and reading ophthalmology websites that described the various methods to improve vision, then read information on your site. Finally I decided to call Dr. Boothe’s Center.

I came to Boothe Laser Center and talked to an assistant, which I liked very much because she paid attention to all of the patients she saw. And then I was taken for an examination of my eyes, which was very scrupulously and after all of this I was given the conclusion that the operation can be done (had -2.5 …- 3.0 vision, astigmatism). Dr. Boothe recommended to do LASIK and offered to do the surgery the next day. I had the laser surgery, which took about 10 minutes with preparation (I was getting dressed in special clothes for surgery, they used anesthetic to minimize pain). After the surgery I went home, took analgesic tablets and sleeping pills, which I were prescribed to me at the Center and went to sleep. In the morning my condition was not very good, I felt a little dizzy. I went to the center where Dr. Boothe’s assistant washed my eyes and applied eye drops after which I felt better. I felt well after the laser surgery, starting somewhere around one day since its completion. On the third day after surgery I was shocked. I looked at the calendar in the exam cabinet and was able to read the names of the months.

My vision has been super – 20/20 – ever since, despite the fact that the I strain my eyes constantly, working at a computer all day and driving a car to and from the office. Thank you Dr. Boothe and his staff for my vision and for your golden hands and attention to patients. I recommended my friend to do laser eye surgery at Boothe Eyecare as well.

Technology at Boothe Eyecare & Laser Center

Filed under: Uncategorized — Tags: , — Doctor Boothe Eye @ 4:50 pm

IntraLase Technology

As you all know Lasik surgery is a popular choice among patients seeking vision correction. Now, a new technology generated a buzz – it is known as IntraLase iFS. This technology is an advanced flap technology that does not use any blades – the procedure is done all by lasers. An IntraLase iFS is used to create a flap precisely, with less amount of energy. By using this unique technology the doctor can finish the procedure swiftly and the recovery time for the patients is also faster. The technology was developed by the researchers of Kellogg Eye Center and College of Engineering.

This advanced laser technology will make high-precision cuts of the cornea just like that of the LASIK surgery, but the surgical procedure done by IntraLase iFS has better precision than that of the mechanical blade (microkeratome) used by the surgeon and the result is less complications. This technology was approved by FDA at the beginning of this year. IntraLase iFS uses light pulses which are strong and short and are measured in terms of femtoseconds, enabling surgeons to create precise cuts with less damage to the tissues surrounding the cornea. This kind of precision cut is not possible in the case of LASIK technology, even though the technology is very good. IntraLase iFS enables the surgeon to finish the surgery within 10 seconds.

VISX STAR S4

VISX STAR S4 is the most modern excimer laser system of today’s world that represents the latest laser technology in the field of LASIK surgery. VISX Star S4 enables the patient to get a completely customized treatment as required based on her/his visual requirements. The customized procedure is provided by combining both VISX STAR S4 excimer Laser System as well as the WavaScan Wavefront System. The WaveScan technology is smart enough to find the unique imperfections present in the vision of every patient. The measurement provided by this technology is 25 times more precise than that of the standard methods. The WaveScan technology provides a detailed description of the eye and this information is translated into digital instructions to the laser for CustomVue treatment. STAR S4 uses VISX technologies such as VSS, VRR, Active Trak Automatic Centering and ActiveTrak 3-D Active Eye Tracking in order to provide a precision custom LASIK surgery.

VSS or Variable Spot Scanning: Various sized beams that range from 0.65mm to 6.5mm are used to scan the area for treatment, preserving the tissues around it and enabling the doctor to provide the best possible treatment.

VRR or Variable Repetition Rate: VRR provides treatment at various repetition rates and optimize the treatment time for the patient.

Active Trak 3-D Active Eye Tracking: This helps to capture intra-operative eye movements in all three dimensions and there is no need of dilation.

ActiveTrak 3-D Active Eye Tracking: This technology locates and automatically identifies the point for treatment in the center of the pupil.

VISX STAR S4 is an FDA approved laser system superior in its surgical cuts and no two personal maps/descriptions generated by it are similar. This enables the surgeon to have the precise measurement in order to provide the correct treatment to the patients to fully get back their vision.

Allegretto WaveLight Eye-Q

Allegretto WaveLight Eye-Q is an excimer laser system based on Wavefront Optimized technology that enhances the comfort level of the patient and provides great efficiency in delivering results faster for laser vision correction patients. The system is approved to correct myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism and is the quickest in correcting these vision problems. Every two seconds, the system can treat one diopter and the speed of the machine helps in to achieve less dehydration of the cornea. The system also has an infrared eye tracker which responds quickly and is highly accurate and reliable. Each procedure performed by this laser system is customized according to the refraction and curvature of the cornea, all targeted atimproving the quality of your vision. This laser system also depends on PerfectPulse Technology that control every pulse that reaches the eye accurately. Allegretto WaveLight Eye-Q is considered very effective and the safest optical laser available. Not all doctors are using this system. Dr.William Boothe is well versed in using this technology. The vision of his patients can be corrected within eight seconds or sometimes faster.
